Fred Patton
President
Fred Patton is president of the Kansas Association of School Boards. Patton has served for six years on the Seaman USD 345. He has been involved throughout his community giving time to the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce, North Topeka Business Alliance Board as well as Leadership Greater Topeka and other organizations. Patton earned his J.D. from the University of Kansas and his B.B.A. in Management and Finance from Washburn University. His hobbies and interests revolve around family including his three children Zachary, Andrew and Emily.
Dr. John Heim
Executive Director
Dr. John Heim is executive director of the Kansas Association of School Boards 
and comes from Emporia USD 253, where he has served as superintendent since 1997. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Emporia State University in the Teacher’s College.
Previously he was executive director of the Educational Services and Staff Development Association of Central Kansas (ESSDACK). He has also been superintendent of El Dorado USD 490 and Leoti USD 467. Prior to becoming a superintendent he was principal at Ell-Saline Junior High in Ell-Saline USD 307 and assistant principal of South Junior High in Lawrence USD 497.
Leadership positions he has held include President of the Kansas Association of School Administrators; Board of Directors member and Legislative Committee chairman of the United School Administrators of Kansas; and member of the Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning Superintendent’s Forum.
In 2009, he was named the Kansas Association of School Administrators Superintendent of the Year. Other honors include the United School Administrators of Kansas Outstanding Service Award and the Kansas School Public Relations Association’s Communicator of the Year award.
Dr. Heim has a Ph.D. in educational administration from Kansas State University, a Master of Science in educational administration from Fort Hays State University and a Bachelor of Science in secondary education from the University of Kansas.
