David Johnson
President

David Johnson was installed as president of the Georgia School Boards Association at the 2011 Summer  Conference and Delegate Assembly. Prior to this, he served as GSBA District 7 Director for two years, vice president and president-elect for one year. He is on the GSBA Executive Committee, the Governmental Affairs Committee, the Nominating Committee, and the NSBA Federal Relations Network (FRN).

Johnson also serves on the Board of Directors of GSBA’s subsidiary, eBOARDsolutions, and currently serves on the Executive Committee for the GSBA/Georgia School Superintendents Association “Vision for Public Education in Georgia.” He is the president of United Community Bank in Rome. Johnson serves as a member of the Resource Board and the Emergency Physician Group Board of Directors of the Floyd Medical Center and on several committees at the center. He also serves on the Professional Standards Commission, on Governor Deal’s Education Advisory Committee, and as secretary/ treasurer to the Development Authority of Floyd County, among other community activities.

Johnson has been a member of the Floyd County Board of Education since November 1998 and currently serves as the board’s vice chair.

Jeannie "Sis" Henry
Executive Director

Sis Henry has spent the last 37 years as a steadfast advocate of public education. Her experiences range from the classroom to the central office and 22 years with the South Carolina School Boards Association. She “came home to Georgia” in September 2001 and currently serves as the executive director of the Georgia School Boards Association.

Under her leadership at GSBA, a strategic plan has been developed that is providing a framework to improve the association’s programs and services and its advocacy efforts. A tribute to her vision was the construction and completion of a new headquarters in 2006. Sis has also devoted much of her time to building collaborative relationships between GSBA and educational, legislative and business leaders and groups.

Sis is known as an expert in the field of communications, professional development, superintendent searches and finance campaigns. She has worked with school boards on conflict management, goal-setting and team-building. Sis also has worked on over 100 successful finance campaigns throughout the country for nearly $5 billion worth of construction money.

A frequent speaker and lecturer, Sis has traveled the country assisting school boards, school boards associations and local school districts. She is also a noted author and has penned numerous articles, training kits and manuals on school finance campaigns, communications and boardsmanship. In 2006 she co-authored “Leadership for State School Boards Associations” with Robert Rader, executive director, Connecticut Association of Board of Education and Susan Francis, executive director, Delaware School Boards Association. In 2000 she was commissioned by the National School Boards Association (NSBA) and the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) to co-author the book, Team Leadership for Student Achievement.

Sis has served as President of the National School Public Relations Association, and Chairman of the National School Boards Association’s Council of School Boards Association Communicators.  She also serves as President and Chairman of the Board of GSBA’s wholly owned subsidiary, eBOARDsolutions (EBS). EBS offers web-based software specifically focused on board governance and membership management.

Among the many awards and recognitions she has received, she was named the 2000 and 2009 recipient of the National School Boards Association’s highest honor, the Shannon Award for Excellence in School Board Governance. In 2009, the Georgia General Assembly honored her with a resolution recognizing her dedication and service to public education. South Carolina’s governor honored her in 2001 with the state’s highest civilian honor, the Order of the Palmetto. Sis earned her bachelor of journalism degree from the University of Georgia.
